Personally, while not a truly religious person, I believe that everyone who has ever lived, lives, or will live has a path in life. Granted, this pathway isn't always clear or laid out, nor does this give anybody free will to be as lazy or careless as they want, but I believe there is a road specifically made for every human being.
I believe in a blank slate at birth, meaning that the experiences that a child or growing adult has, shape their morals or personal code. This moral code acts as a guide for this person, who then carries out their will when the opportunity arises and adheres to their code. Personally, I have been around cigarette smoke most of my life, what with older siblings, uncles, aunts, et cetera. I've seen the effect smoking can have on it's subjects, and as a result choose not to smoke cigarettes. It all depends on the way one is brought up that can shape their later decisions.
Having a moral code, be it good or bad, doesn't make a person who they are. If I believe my predestined path is to own a boat one day, I'm not going to sit idle and screw around until it comes to me. Predestination to me is, just knowing that in the most dire of times or best of times, something will work out, because life shouldn't just come to a sudden halt, good or bad. It's that there will be good and bad times, but the moral code of each individual determines the outcome of these situations as they act according to their own system. These decisions then branch out, and create a path. I don't believe in a deity or higher being who watches me go through my trials and tribulations, but I do believe that there is a path I am destined to follow, and I shall follow it the only way I know how: by adhering to my own code of morals, and simply being me.
